Background
Angelus is a native of Shaede, from a time before the Fey races migrated there from a distant continent. What was once an inhospitable continent, filled with beings born directly from the elements and ancient magics, was transformed by the arrival of the Fey.
Angelus's lineage was the first to be affected by the first Fey, who traded the power of emotions for the eloquence of the Mind. They brought with them stories and tales of a creator god named Kelemvor and his children, the elements.
With this came the knowledge of magic, and the Rimekin, Angelus's species, was created with a color unlike any other. His family was incorporated into the new organization of the continent. The first of the Rimekin families, the Frostbites, founded ShaedeKar and gained considerable political power.
Over the generations, the Frostbites gradually distanced themselves from the religious world while gaining increasing political influence, eventually becoming part of the Glorified Ministry.
Young Angelus distinguished himself within the family thanks to his powers as a Diviner, and was eventually invited to join one of the three religious orders of Shaede.
With the promise of great things to come, Angelus founded a small action group alongside one of his protégés, a fairy named Thieran, a former noble named Nuon, and a refugee assassin named Shen.
Regarded as an elite group, thanks to Thieran's strong connection to the god Gulomirr and the athletic prowess of the group's two warriors, they soon became associated with a name found only in ancient legends: the Sarrhafa — the emissaries of the gods sent to restore order, as foretold by the First Elf more than a thousand years ago.
At this point in the story, the team has been tasked with holding the flank of the Holy War between the three religious factions, each fighting to determine which deity is the true and rightful one.
The Sarrhafa mission
Expelled from a continent that had once been given to all the races of the world, the Fey, Orc, and Aberrant races were exiled from the continent of Hom more than a millennium ago, after Humans and all the other races managed to imprison the Dragons, who had controlled the entire continent.
The Fey races managed to find a home in the continent of Vorlir, in the region of Shaede, where they divided themselves into tribes. The other races eventually left Shaede, heading north, east, or even toward an unknown ocean.
ShaedeKar, the capital, became the main center of knowledge, where magic and religion were perfected in order to bring complete balance to society. Peace existed between orders, small kingdoms, cities, and races.
Two hundred years ago, in 950 DS (Draconic Silence), an entire village was swallowed by a black cloud. Several orders speculated that supernatural forces from other planes of existence were responsible, and the three strongest religious orders in the region were called upon to investigate. However, despite the many theories and accumulated knowledge, the land began to grow barren and dark, and more clouds started appearing throughout the region, draining its energy.
There were also uprisings of beings with powers connected to death, such as vampires, abominations, and undead, who began conquering parts of the region. Movement across the continent became increasingly difficult, and Shaede descended into an age of darkness.
The Holy War did nothing to help stabilize the region, as each of the orders believed that the others represented the one true god, embodied in a legend older than any race: the existence of Kelemvor, the creator god.
The acolytes of Gulomirr are fighting against the Children of Vilandreil, the god of Unparalleled Joy, and the followers of Sevorat, the god of Merciless Sorrow. This war began with an incident in the capital of ShaedeKar, where the three supreme leaders were killed during a gathering of the orders in the center of the city. Whoever killed them declared themselves to be the true Child of Kelemvor.
And this is where the session begins: at the end of the Holy War.
