A striking figure of noble heritage, he bears the unmistakable traits of his Arabic lineage blended with the grace of elven ancestry, that was frowned upon in his oasis with the name of his family.
Brief Story
Azir is a Paladin from the northwestern reaches of the Main Continent of Hom. Born in the al-Hakim Oasis, not far from the headquarters of the Vanishing Sands Order of Assassins, Azir was raised among desert winds, ancient traditions, and the ever-present threat of war.
He is a striking figure of noble heritage, carrying the unmistakable features of his Arabic ancestry intertwined with the elegance of his elven blood — a heritage that was never welcomed in his oasis, particularly because of the name his family carried.
Tall and proud, Azir's face is framed by a dark, neatly groomed beard that gives him an air of wisdom beyond his years. His deep, resolute eyes reflect the intensity of his purpose, burning with a quiet, righteous flame.
His armor is a fusion of the dying kingdom's medieval traditions and the echoes of his Arabic heritage. Once brilliant, it has been weathered by years of travel and battle, its blues and dark tones reflecting the somber colors of a kingdom slowly losing its glory. Subtle Arabic motifs adorn the armor, proudly connecting him to both his origins and the cause he now serves.
A small, carefully tied turban conceals his elven ears. It provides anonymity when necessary, but also serves as a quiet reminder of the duality that defines Azir's existence.
At his side rests a carefully maintained scimitar, its blue-tinged steel catching the light whenever it is drawn. It is both a weapon and a piece of his ancestry — a reminder of the desert he left behind.
Azir carries himself with strength and grace, tempered by the weariness of someone who has seen the consequences of injustice firsthand. Every action is guided by honor. Every battle serves a purpose. Beneath his disciplined exterior lies a secret mission that could determine the fate of a dying kingdom.
And, above all, a burning desire to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Early life
The al-Hakim Oasis had once been a sanctuary for travelers crossing the desert. Merchants rested beneath its palms, caravans replenished their supplies, and travelers found safety within its walls.
Then came the Grym Empire.
A Sand Serpent was believed to have laid its eggs somewhere near the oasis. Fearing that the creature's presence might allow the ancient Dragon lineage to rise once more, the Grym army descended upon al-Hakim.
They did not negotiate.
The oasis was burned, its inhabitants slaughtered, and everything Azir had ever known was reduced to ash.
Azir was still a child when his servant managed to rescue him. Together, they fled west, disappearing into the endless desert until they reached the territory of the Vanishing Sands.
There, Azir found a new home.
Or, at least, something that resembled one.
The Order quickly recognized the potential in the young half-elf. His elven blood, though despised by many, proved to be an unexpected advantage. Azir learned quickly, combining his natural agility with the discipline of the assassins. He became proficient with weapons, magic, and the arts of survival.
His greatest influence, however, was his master: Mael Gul-O'h.
Gul-O'h taught Azir that justice was not simply about punishment. Justice meant finding the solution that protected the greatest number of innocent lives. He taught him to look beyond vengeance and toward the consequences of every decision.
Under Gul-O'h's tutelage, Azir became more than a warrior.
He became a man of principle.
The two initially worked to protect the innocent and uphold justice throughout the desert. Azir was trained in combat and spellcasting, but more importantly, he was taught honor, discipline, compassion, and righteousness.
For the first time since the destruction of al-Hakim, Azir believed he had found something worth protecting.
Then Gul-O'h died.
His death left the leadership of the Vanishing Sands vacant. Some within the Order whispered that Azir was the natural successor. He had the skill, the discipline, and the respect of many of the younger members.
But others saw only his ears.
His elven blood became the excuse they needed.
Instead, a colleague named Kartrah was appointed leader.
Kartrah did not share Gul-O'h's philosophy.
Under the new leadership, the Vanishing Sands began to change. Bribes became commonplace. Protection was no longer offered according to who was in need, but according to who could pay. Cities that could not afford the Order's services were abandoned to the dangers of the desert.
Azir tolerated it for as long as he could.
Until he found proof.
The discovery shattered something inside him.
The Order he had believed represented justice had become another force exploiting the helpless.
So Azir did what he had once believed impossible.
He abandoned the Vanishing Sands.
And he ran south.
Life in Valor
Azir spent weeks travelling through unfamiliar lands, often without knowing exactly where he was going.
By the time he reached the borders of Valor, he was exhausted, starving, and nearly out of hope.
The desert was behind him, but there was little waiting for him ahead.
Returning to al-Hakim was impossible. He had neither the resources nor the power to rebuild the oasis. Even if he somehow acquired them, restoring what had been lost would take decades.
For the first time, Azir wondered whether there was any purpose left for him at all.
Then the people of Valor began to tell stories.
Independent villages reported sightings of a foreign peacemaker wandering through the countryside. Wherever he appeared, criminals disappeared. Thieves' guilds were dismantled overnight. Bandits were brought to justice.
Nobody knew his name.
They simply called him the foreign sheriff.
The stories eventually reached the King of Valor.
Intrigued, the King dispatched some of his finest guards to find the mysterious wanderer and bring him to the capital.
They found Azir barely alive.
He had been travelling for days without proper food, water, or rest.
When he finally awoke, he was no longer in the wilderness.
He was in Valeria, the capital of Valor.
After speaking with the King, Azir was offered something he had not expected: a purpose.
He was appointed High Sheriff of Valor, one of the highest military and judicial positions in the kingdom — a title held by only twelve other warriors in the realm.
And Valor desperately needed him.
The kingdom was losing territory to Grym and Rekhassa, the other two great human empires. Their armies were pushing deeper into Valor's borders, and defeat seemed increasingly inevitable.
Azir refused to accept it.
He returned to the battlefield.
Valor lacked the arcane advancement and technological sophistication of its rivals, but its fortifications were formidable, and its weapons were reliable. Azir learned how to turn those strengths into advantages.
Under his leadership, the kingdom began pushing back.
He reclaimed lost ground.
He slowed the enemy advances.
For the first time in years, Valor had someone who could stand between its people and the armies at its borders.
And Azir had found something else.
A kingdom worth protecting.
Azir's mission
Years passed.
Then the King fell ill.
As his health deteriorated, the Majordomo of the Court assumed much of the responsibility for governing the kingdom. The twelve High Sheriffs were summoned to the capital.
But this was not a military meeting.
It was a secret.
The King gave them a new mission: leave Valor's borders and search for sources of power capable of changing the course of the war.
Powerful artifacts.
Ancient relics.
Prophecies.
Anything that could give Valor an advantage against Grym and Rekhassa.
Azir began his search in the royal library.
Night after night, he buried himself in old records, forgotten legends, and prophecies from the Olde. Most were useless — myths written by people who had long since become dust.
Until he found one.
It described a land surrounded by an Invisible Ocean, a place where magic was not merely wielded but seemed to permeate the very world.
A land where wishes could supposedly be granted.
A place of unimaginable power.
An island that had never been properly mapped.
An island humans were too afraid to approach.
Lumeria.
At first, Azir dismissed it as nothing more than a fable.
Then he discovered something that changed everything.
Someone had paid for a vessel to travel across the Invisible Ocean.
A group of adventurers was preparing to journey toward the mysterious island.
Azir realized that this could be his opportunity.
He could not return to Valor empty-handed.
He could not allow the kingdom that had given him a second life to fall.
And he could not forget the oath he had taken.
So Azir swore a sacred oath: he would seek the strength and alliances necessary to safeguard Valor's future and restore the kingdom to its former splendor.
He boarded the vessel bound for Lumeria.
To the other passengers, he is simply another adventurer — a foreign paladin carrying an old scimitar and wearing weathered armor.
They do not know that he is a High Sheriff of Valor.
They do not know that his kingdom is slowly losing a war.
They do not know that his King entrusted him with a secret mission.
And they certainly do not know what Azir intends to find on the island.
For now, he travels beneath a veil of secrecy, guided by the unwavering principles that made him a paladin in the first place.
Justice. Honor. Protection.
But there is one thing Azir has learned since the fall of al-Hakim:
Sometimes, protecting the innocent requires walking into the darkness yourself.
And somewhere beyond the Invisible Ocean lies Lumeria — an island that may hold the power to save Valor...
...or the power to destroy everything Azir has sworn to protect.
